Mary A Fischer
Harmony Books, NY 2006
When I read this book, I was immediately struck by Fischer’s candor and ability to draw the reader into her world, which considering the level of dysfunction, it is a wonder that she chose to invite us in. Conversely, people might argue that it was carthartic for her and a tremendous step toward healing her wounded soul.
We are readily invited into Mary’s life as she unfolds the twisted, unhappy story of a family torn apart by the tragedy of mental illness, abandonment by her father and separation from her sister who easily disconnects from the family without looking back very often, other than when required by circumstance.

Breed Specific Legislation–What is the Point?
Certainly it is understandable that local, state, and even bigger government agencies would have a strong desire to see all of their people and animals safe from the ravages of dangerous beings, whether of the two or four legged variety. HOWEVER…It almost seems like the return of blacklisting, a witch hunt, if you will to try to legislate the breeds that are acceptible for individuals to keep as family members or guardians, working dogs or show dogs.

Compulsive Behaviors in Dogs DO Exist
Just as humans are subject to the daily stresses of their life and all that the business of the day generates, the dogs that share the lives with their humans are subject to the same feelings. Albeit, that the canine companions will not need ever to worry about losing a job or the company with which they are employed being downsized.
Our furry companions are subject to separation anxiety, lonliness, boredom, fear and a myriad of other issues that show up in them as repetitive, not-necessarily-purposeful behaviors that can lead to health and safety issues for the dog.
